Triangle Trade Map

Map of the Sally's Voyage

The Sally's voyage was a classic example of what historians call "the triangle trade." Rum-laden ships departed from New England to West Africa, where they exchanged their cargo for enslaved Africans. These captives were then carried to the sugar colonies of the Caribbean and sold. The ships returned to Rhode Island with their holds loaded with sugar and molasses, which was distilled into rum, thus completing the triangle.
