Within Mississippi, precinct elections served as the first, and often most significant, arena for activity on the part of local politicians and activists. This affidavit from Fannie Lou Hamer chronicles the impediments blacks faced in attaining political power through the electoral process. Mrs. Hamer began work on the local level in Mississippi and became an important leader in the national Civil Rights struggle.
