Act to Fund State Sovereignty Commission, Mississippi State Legislature, 1964
This document proved that the Mississippi State Legislature used state funds, taxpayer money, to finance the Mississippi State Sovereignty Commission and indirectly the Citizens’ Council. The act specifically allocated $50,000 to the commission for the “biennium ending June 30, 1964." Thus, all taxpayers (black and white) were forced to support this organization even though it sought to eliminate civil rights activism and maintain segregation in the state and nationwide.
