Political Cartoon, Jackson Daily News, 1962
This political cartoon, illustrated by Bob Howie and printed in the "Jackson Daily News", shows a sleeping Jackson Citizens’ Council Representative offering to provide transportation north for dissatisfied Jackson blacks. Published in 1962, shortly after the Freedom Movement in Mississippi had made some gains, the cartoon illustrated the Citizens' Council's frustration in the face of civil rights activism in the city, particularly the Jackson Movement which had begun in 1961.
