  • 1 - Ponte S. Trinita
  • The 1252 bridge was destroyed by the flood of 1557. Rebuilt by Ammannati 1567-70. The statues of the seasons at the ends (by G. Caccini, P. Francavilla and T. Landini) were added for the marriage of Cosimo II with Maria Maddalena di Austria in 1608. B144 Destroyed by German mines in 1944 and then restored to its previous appearance.

  • 2 - Pal. Bardi-Guicciardini
  • Confiscated from Roberto di Piero Capponi after the Pucci conspiracy of 1574 and awarded by Francesco I to Count Pandolfo dei Bardi di Vernio. The palace was renovated in the 18th century and passed later to the Guicciardini. G-L 123 Lung Guicc. 7.

  • 3 - Pal. Frescobaldi
  • The ancestral houses of the Frescobaldi were at the southern end of Ponte S. Trinita and have not survived. This palace in V. S. Spirito was built in the 16th-17th centuries. G-L 125 V. S. Spirito 11-13.

  • 4 - Pal. Lodovico Capponi
  • Belonged to Vettori family in the 16th century and passed by marriage to the Capponi. Enlarged probably for the marriage of Marchese Senator Bernardino Capponi (1563-1639) with Elisabetta Salviati in 1598. Later inherited by the Riccardi. G-L 122 Lung Guicc. 1

  • 5 - Pal. Machiavelli
  • 15th cent. Limb. 391 V. S. Spirito 5-7.

  • 6 - Pal. Ridolfi Ricasoli Firidolfi
  • Built by Senator Giovanni Francesco Ridolfi (1475-1533) over old Velluti and Migliori houses and wool workshops. Inherited by the Ricasoli family in the 17th century. B221 G-L 113 V. Maggio 7.

"Quarter: S. Spirito, Parishes: S. Frediano, S. Jacopo sopra Arno, Streets: Borgo S. Jacopo {p}, Lungarno, V dello Sprone {p}, V Maggio {p} V. S. Spirito {p}. Square 65 had a moderate number of households, many patricians, some households with servants, few households w/o surnames, and some households headed by widows. The Buontalenti? "Shell" fountain at the corner of V Maggio, Borgo S. Jacopo, V dello Sprone appeared ca. 1570."
