  • Chief north-western gate B133. The Baluardo della Serpe (B21) was south of Porta al Prato.

  • 2 - Case Nuove sul Prato
  • Row houses for workers begun by the Arte dei Mercatanti 1576. V. Il Prato. No longer exist.

  • 3 - S. Anna Con.
  • 1534 founded in transferred leper house of S. Eusebio by nuns of S. Anna in Verzaia whose house was damaged in the siege of 1530. They had earlier settled temporarily in what became the Archangelo Raffaello (Sq. 72#2) Renovated 16th cent. [46 R 1551, 62 1632]. B2 M/R 4 Paatz I:57 V. Il Prato No longer exists.

  • 4 - S. Maria sul Prato Con.
  • 1289 Augustinian nuns. New church ca 1595. [53 R 1551, 65 1632] B83 M/R 69 Paatz IV:82 V. del Prato No longer exists.

  • 5 - Pal. Corsini sul Prato (Site)
  • Land with small houses bought by Alessandro Acciaiuoli (1545-1601) in 1591. Building begun by Buontalenti interrupted by Acciaiuoli's financial ruin in the De Ricci bank failure of 1594. Bought by Senator Filippo di Lorenzo Corsini (1578-1636) in 1621 who employed Gherardo Silvani to complete the palace and garden. G-L 38 V. Il Prato 56.

"Quarter: S. Maria Novella, Parish: S. Lucia sul Prato, Streets: Porta al Prato, V del Prato {p}, V della Scala {p}. Square 42 had a moderate number of households, some shops, few patricians, few households with servants, some households w/o surnames and some households headed by widows. Weavers were likely here."
