1345 on the site of earlier bridges here. The 1594 editon of the Buonsignori map has the notation "Ponte Vecchio Orefici (Goldsmiths)". In 1593 Ferdinando I expelled the butchers and other shops previously on the bridge and had goldsmiths move there, who still remain today, as more seemly for gentlemen using it to reach the Palazzo Pitti.
