Column commemorating the Battle of Marciano (1554) in the Sienese War, erected by Cosimo I 1572. The column was removed in the early 19th century but has recently returned. Pza S. Felice.
Anc. Par. Ch. Nonantola monks c. 1250, Camaldolesi 1413. In 1557 Dominican nuns transferred here from S. Pier Martire house destroyed through building of Cosimo I embankment (Sq. 84). [9 R (men) 1551, 43 R (women-in Sq. 84 #3) 1551, 104 here 1632] B82 M/R 30 Paatz II:41 Pza S. Felice.
Built by Cronaca? for the Dei family ca. 1505 and owned by them until their extinction in 1683 when it passed to the Guadagni. B162 G-L 121 Pza S. Spirito 10.
(Left of dot) small Ridolfi palace, bought by Cav. Camillo di Mess. Francesco Guidi of Volterra 1618--son of a ducal secretary. The English poets Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning lived here in the 19th cent. G-L 120 V. Maggio 8.
Probably built by Messer Filippo Corsini (1334-1421). Bought in 1559 by Bishop Marzio Marzi-Medici (court of Cosimo I) from whom after other owners it had passed to the Portuguese Suarez della Conca (court of Ferdinando I) by the 1590s. Renovated by Gherardo Silvani in the early 17th century; ultimately left to the Order of S. Stephen; thereafter known as the Pal. della Commenda di Firenze. G-L 119 V. Maggio 42.
