Danzig Notables -- Dr. Georg Remus

Dr. Georg Remus, born in Danzig 1687/1688, received a doctorate in medicine at the University of Halle in 1709 (Diss.: "Consideration physico-mathematica hiemis proxime praeterlapsae") and pursued his studies further in Leyden. (Both Kulmus brothers had studied medicine in Halle, but not at this time.) In 1719 Remus went to Russia, first as a field doctor for the Russian army, then as personal physician to Prince Menshikov. In 1722 he published the experiments on mineral water of Dr. Laurentius Blumentrost, Epistola ad cel. Breynium de aquis martialibus Olonezensibus. Petrop. 1720, cui annexa est Breynii epistola de melonibus petrefactis ad ill. Anderson (Leipzig, 1722). In 1723 he returned to Danzig with a large collection of "curiosities". He married Maria Egler in 1723 and died 1756.
