Ada McAllister was born in Evanston, Illinois, in 1945. After graduating from Columbia College in 1967, McAllister moved to New York City where she joined a feminist collective and wrote political skits. She left New York City in 1972 to pursue a master's degree in the performing arts of feminism at Goddard College. McAllister served as the artistic director for the Rhode Island Feminist Theater from 1974 to 1978. She helped lead the group through many successful productions, including an historical piece that was made into a film for public television. McAllister now lives in Seattle and paints pet portraits. Additionally, 2006 marked her 42nd year in the theater.
