head shot of Xander Marro

Xander Marro

Xander Marro is an artist and community member working to renovate and legitimize mill spaces on the west side of Providence. She originally came to Providence to study at Brown, but feelings of isolation on College Hill drove her to get involved in the underground arts and music scene. She helped to establish the Dirt Palace in Olneyville. The DP, a feminist art collective, is owned, maintained and run by artists, and provides a space for artistic resources and activity. But just as important, it supports community: the community of artists who work there, the Olneyville community, and the community of female artists in Providence for whom it establishes a safe and supportive place to practice and perform their art.
