Black Repertory Theater
Growing up as a black youth in the Providence public schools, Don King never shared his interest in theater with anyone. His role models were athletes, not actors. After graduating from Brown University, where he was involved with Rites and Reasons Theater, King became an artist in residence at AS220 and further developed his ideas about society's need for a plurality of images and representations of America's diversity. Today King is executive director of Black Rep in Providence, where he promotes education, public programming and community involvement through the creative arts.
