head shot of Robin Lewis

Robin Lewis

Robin Lewis was born and raised in Rhode Island, and is currently a Deaf teacher at the Rhode Island School for the Deaf. She grew up in a primarily oral environment and was mainstreamed from the time she was very young with no support services. Her family always referred to her as "hard-of-hearing." It was only when Robin entered college when she started to develop a Deaf identity by meeting other Deaf people and learning ASL (American Sign Language). She has been involved with political activism in the Deaf community, and continues to reside in Providence.
