Paula Hunter

Paula Hunter is founder and Artistic Director of JUMP!, a program designed to help children ages 8 to 18 explore movement, acquire dance skills, and choreograph their own dances. Hunter moved from Michigan to New York, and finally, to Rhode Island, where she has had a career as a choreographer and performing artist.

Hunter played an important role in establishing a place for dancers and solo artists in Providence. The city, in turn, played a role in her development as an artist. She credits the intimacy of Providence with helping her to develop an original and personal approach to dance. Many of Hunter's recent pieces—they include The Unexpected, Shrink, Mounting Evidence, Visited on Me, and Chopin and Me—have been multimedia performances incorporating sculpture, music, text and video. Some are autobiographical, performed to the sound of her of own voice.
