John Chan was born in Hong Kong, China, in 1951, and is best known as the owner of Chan's Egg Rolls and Jazz, located in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He came to the United States when he was ten, and attended New York City public schools. In 1965, he came to Rhode Island when his parents purchased the restaurant, which had been open since 1905. After attending high school in Rhode Island, John attended Providence College, and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Business. Following his young adult life and college years in and around New England, Mr. Chan has helmed the dining and entertainment operations of his business for over 25 years.
