Michael Townsend

Originally from Boynton Beach, Florida, Michael Townsend came to Providence in 1989 to attend the Rhode Island School of Design. His first night at school, he and a group of fellow students drew with tape. Over the years, Townsend developed Tape Art. In 1995, he went on a national tour funded by the tape company Manco. Based in Providence and occasionally involved with other projects, Townsend has focused on advancing the philosophy and visibility of this art.
