  • 1 - S. Maria sopra Arno Par.

    • 12th cent. Par. Ch. Secularized 1785. B100 Paatz III:155. Pza S. M. Sopra Arno No longer exists.

  • 2 - S. Girolamo e Francesco sulla Costa Con.

    • 1377 Franciscan nuns; 1432 Vallombrosian nuns. Church renovated 1515/20. [90 R 1551, 93 1632] B62 M/R 45 Paatz II:344 Costa S. Giorgio 37.

  • 3 - Pal. Capponi delle Rovinate

    • An important fifteenth century palace built by the the Da Uzzano family. Acquired by Niccolo Capponi (1406-1484) and inhabited by the Capponi up to the present. The Lungarno façade was built in the late 19th century. G-L 106 V. dei Bardi 26.

  • 4 - Pal. Tempi

    • A property of the Del Nero in the fifteenth century transformed into a palace by the Antinori who sold it in 1553. After other owners it passed to Belissario Vinta secretary to Duke Ferdinando I who installed the portrait bust of Cosimo II over the portal with the inscription: "Quarto M[eo] Domino ac Moecena 1609" (since he had served four dukes). The Vinta sold it in 1652 and after other owners it was bought by Senator Leonardo Tempi (d. 1672) a figure at the court of Ferdinando II. Heavily damaged by German mines in 1944. "Quarter: S. Spirito, Parishes: S. Felicita, S. Maria sopra Arno, Streets: Costa S. Giorgio {p}, V dei Bardi {p}. Square 67 had few households, some shops, some patricians, some households with servants, few households w/o surnames and few households headed by widows. This square was much changed through the building of the present Lungarni in the 19th century."
