  • Built by Cronaca? for the Alberti; acquired by Corsi family in 1489. G-L 96 V. de Benci 6.

  • 6 - Pal. Dell' Antella
  • Remodelled by Del Barbigia family 16th century, passed by marriage to Senator Niccolo Dell'Antella (1560-1630) who had the façade frescoed ca. 1619-20. Has a portrait bust of Cosimo II. On the façade is the mid-field marker for the Calcio games played out by teams of patricians on festive occasions in Pza S. Croce G-L 100 Pza S. Croce 21.

  • 7 - Pal. Mellini-Fossi
  • Built by the Mellini late 15th cent., bankers who died out in 1634; early example of a palace frescoed in the new style of the court with classical themes (by Salviati). G-L 99 V. dei Benci 20.

  • 8 - Pal. Serristori-Corsini-Antinori
  • Built by G. da Sangallo? for the Serristori; bought by Lorenzo Corsini 1587. Senator Bartolommeo di Bernardo Corsini (1545-1612) enlarged it toward Corso dei Tintori ca. 1604-11. G-L 97 B. S. Croce 6.

  • Built by Tommaso di Leonardo Spinelli 1460s. G-L 98 B. S. Croce 10.

Streets, Parishes, Notes:

"Quarter: S. Croce, Parishes: S. Jacopo fra Fossi, S. Simone, Streets: Borgo S. Croce, Canto degli Alberti, Corso Tintori {p}, Piazza S. Croce {p}, V degli Alberti (V dei Benci {p}). V Magliabecchi was cut through this square in the late 19th century. Square 51 had a moderate number of households, some shops, many patricians, some households with servants, some households w/o surnames and some households headed by widows. Dyers were likely here. Pza S. Croce was the site of Calcio games played out on festive occasions by teams of patricians and other similar contests. In 1561 Giorgio Vasari lived in a house in this square (in Borgo S. Croce next to Pal. Spinelli). "
