  • A casino in the large garden was built by Bernardo di Giovanni Rucellai ca. 1500, the site of the Orti Oricellari gatherings remembered in Machiavelli's Discorsi. Sold to Bianca Cappella in 1573 and inhabited by Don Antonio de Medici. Sold to the Orsini Marchesi di S. Savino 1608. Acqiuired by Cardinal Giovan Carlo de Medici 1640 who added the giant Polyphemus in the garden. Bought by the Ridolfi 1670 who employed P. F. Silvani to enlarge the casino. G-L 39 V. della Scala 85.

Square 43 had a moderate number of households, few shops, few patricians, few households with servants, many households w/o surnames, and some households headed by widows. Weavers were likely here."
