John Melson began working full-time at the Women Writers Project in July 2008. John is responsible for managing and training the encoding staff, planning the acquisition and transcription of new texts, and participating in the research activities of the Women Writers Project. He also oversees subscriptions and licensing of Women Writers Online, the WWP's digital collection of more than three hundred texts by early modern women.

Prior to becoming Project Manager, John worked for the WWP as an encoder and proofreader. Before that he enjoyed a brief stint in the Electronic Publishing division of the University of Chicago Press, where he was first exposed to SGML and XML. John received his undergraduate degree from Carleton College and an A.M. from the University of Chicago. He is currently completing a Ph.D. in English at Brown University.
