The Charm (English translation):

N woke up on Tuesday morning
washed his eyes 1
crossed himself before the icons
and set out
on the way
on the trail
stout and handsome.
Halfway there
old father Cubitbeard 2
caught up with him
his dick slapping his calves
his balls slapping his heels
his tongue slapping his arsehole
riding on a hare
with a whip on his shoulder
with his sheepskin coat inside out
with ripped pants
with grinning teeth
with a pipe between his teeth
with bulging eyes
with his sheepskin cap inside out.
As soon as he reached N
he put him down
whipped him with the whip
trampled him with the horse
gnawed his flesh 3
drank his blood
ate his heart
yellowed his face
clouded his eyes 4
stretched his veins
carved his back 5
raised his chest
ate his heart.
He frightened him, frighten him he did
he scared him, scare him he did
he stuck him with an arrow, stick him he did
through the head's brain
through the ears' hearing
through the whites of his eyes 6
through the tip of his nose
through the cheeks of his face
through the throat of his neck 7
through the top of his chest
through the handles of his heart
through his heart
under his heart
through his kidneys
under his kidneys
through the midpoint of his loins.
He pushed him off the road
left him for a dead man.
Nobody saw him
nobody heard him
railing
and wailing
only the Mother of the Lord saw him
and heard him.
She dressed in white clothes
came down
on a ladder of gold
leaned upon a staff of silver
took him by the right hand
and asked him with her holy mouth:
— Why do you wail
why do you rail?
— How can I not wail
how can I not rail?
— Don't wail
don't rail
you can run to Maria 8
and Maria will make a charm in brandy for you
she'll charm in brandy and oil.
You'll drink and wash
your look will satisfy you
your face will redden
your body will fatten like a hog's.
You'll drink them with your mouth
you'll shit them out your ass
all sickness will go away.
I'll tie old Cubitbeard with wool
sweep him away with the broom
whip him with the whip
stab him with the knife. 9
Come out, Satan
come out, foul thing
come out, devil
come out, Scaraotski
impure ghost
the name of man
the ghost of man
ptooey, ptooey! 10
Come out now
go away
from the head's brain
from the ears' hearing ...
I'll drive you to Modrea's forests 11
there is your dwelling
with tables laid
with wax torches lit
there no girl ever braided a white plait 12
no black bull bellowed
no black dog barked
no black rooster sang. 13
I'll take you with my right hand
and cast you to the bottom of the sea.

However sick it cures them. You make the charm in water with wine, honey, oil, and with a whisk like the one the priest uses to make holy water.
