STG Faculty Grants Program

Seminar Series

The STG Faculty Grants seminar offers participants an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the methods and processes that go into the creation of high-quality electronic tools and publications. Our focus is on the current year's faculty projects, using them and their specific challenges as points of departure for discussion. We investigate design choices, technological alternatives and their merits, and the fundamental considerations that go into creating a powerful, useful digital publication. The goal is to help the participants gain a more detailed and grounded understanding of the technology being used in their projects, and of its relationship with their research goals and material.

In addition to the current grant recipients, we strongly encourage all those who are interested in applying for a grant, or undertaking a digital project on their own, to attend; the seminar is open to all members of the Brown community. Participants will come away with a deeper and more nuanced understanding of what the technological options are, what they mean, how they work, and what makes them interesting. The seminar will be both usefully practical and intelligently theoretical--neither a simple hands-on how-to, nor a vague discussion of the virtual, but a lucid and informed interweaving of theory and practice. No specific technological knowledge or experience will be assumed.

All are welcome to attend.
