May 17, 2000
In collaboration with Computing and Information Service's Web and Instructional Applications Group, the Scholarly Technology Group has developed Brown University's virtual reunion and will conduct an experimental live webcast of some of the May 26-29 commencement activities.
We organized a network of computer kiosks to be distributed around campus which will give attendees access to reunion events information, a guestbook, and a class homepage. The kiosk information will also be available over the World Wide Web, allowing alumni who are not able to attend Reunion Weekend events in person to participate in activities and share news and photographs with alumni on campus.
We created the Commencement 2000 website and will be broadcasting the commencement ceremonies on the Web via streaming Quicktime, making them accessible to Brown alums and interested parties all over the world. Our cameras will be there beginning at 8 A.M. on Monday, May 29 to witness the important events, including the Processions, the Baccalaureate Ceremony at the First Baptist Church, and the awarding of degrees on the College Green.
